For a hyper local art experience, head to Adams Morgan. Here you'll find the DC Arts Center with a second-floor art gallery featuring local artists. Open Wednesday-Sunday from 2-7pm, plan on lunch or dinner nearby (Sharbat is a good option for Azerbaijani food) before seeing art. The gallery is in one main room and a small room in the back. There’s also a black box theatre!

I wish I could give this place a negative 10 stars. I purchased four pictures from a show and when the show was over I went to their place of business at 3 PM on Wednesday on 10/9/2024 to pick them up. They were closed even though they open at 2.

I called their number. It is a non working number. It says leave a message but when you start talking after the beep it starts ringing again for 8 times and then it says to leave a message again. It is an endless loop.

I called again on Thursday so I don’t waste time going there on the bus again and their phone is still out of order.

It looks like they have shutdown without telling anybody who appreciated the place. I feel sorry for whomever worked there. They must be sad to know it is out of business

I wish to reply to their reply.

They were not open either Wednesday or Thursday as claimed in their reply. They said they were inside preparing for another show but there were no lights and no activity inside because I waited outside and even knocked.

They lied about contacting me by phone because there are no voicemails from them.

They lied about picking them up on the date of the closing reception because, unlike them, I did contact them to tell them I could not make it on Sunday and they informed me that it was fine and they would be available on Wednesday and to come to the center, which I did.

It is interesting that they turned down the sale of four pictures because they do not put the artist first and they have proved they do not care about the artists they are supposed to represent. They did not even contact the artist to tell them that they refused to sell the four pictures I had paid for.

Once i survive the climb of that entrance staircase, I'm never disappointed with the art on display in the gallery, nor the performances in the intimate theater (43 seats). Shout-out to A Bright Room Called Day, and Watergate - with Puppets!

Came in at 3PM on a Wednesday with a special needs adult whom I work with who really likes artwork. Sign clearly said they were open but lady asks us if we are picking something up. When I say no, she tells me they are closed even though the sign and fact that she is working there clearly indicates they are open. One of the most bizarre and rude experiences I’ve ever been apart of, in terms of overall experience. Not sure why this places receives taxpayer funding as a non-profit if they are preventing people from visiting during normal business hours.

My favorite hole in the wall, and another wall and maybe a floor or two, venue. There is nothing accessible here, and the one toilet isn't going to save you during an eight minute intermission. Bring good knees for the many sets of stairs you'll climb to get to your tiny seat and plan ahead by visiting, and using the facilities at, one of the many bars nearby before the show. By being a tiny black box the average cop can't fit down the stairwells to raid this place has an off the wall eccentricity to its shows you wouldn't want to find elsewhere. The little cash bar has a mediocre selection at best but it'll get you through three acts. The lobby is a feature unto itself, housing an ever changing gallery. Twice the size of the theatre, it's still not big and doesn't take long to inspect. Thankfully though the curator tends to pick out artists that require some time for reflection.

A really cool performance/art gallery space. The first area is an art gallery with some exhibits that rotate throughout the year. In the back is a small black box theatre that showcases DC theatre.

Be warned: If you plan on seeing a show here plan ahead for parking/transportation. There is only a small garage across the street that's $20+, otherwise you're fighting for street parking which is hard to come by. The closest metro stop is about a ten minute walk.
