We’ve been at Barnesville for a year, but it only took a few weeks for it to feel like family. Caring, amazing teachers AND administrative staff. A curriculum that recognizes the importance of arts AND sciences and how they work together hand in hand to nurture inquisitive, creative, critical thinkers. Lots of outdoors time and after school activities, and the school bus to and from the Kentlands is super convenient. This is an amazing community of kids, parents, teachers, staff, and alumni families. We’re so glad we chose Barnesville!

It is not often that I feel compelled to write a POSITIVE review about something, but Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences is a VERY special place. The school's supportive environment is exceptional and it excels at personalized teaching. Barnesville equips students to succeed in life, and graduates leave for the BEST high schools in Maryland and DC.

Barnesville School:
- has a great ratio of students to teachers (12:1 in my son's 2nd grade and 10:1 in his third grade classes.)
- understands how cross-curriculum teaching makes subject matter comprehensible to kids,
- instills a love of learning (joy is felt in the corridors and classrooms),
- utilizes the outdoors of the Montgomery County Ag Reserve right outside its doors, with nature projects, physical education, and recess,
- takes advantage of its location near many landmarks, with 80 field trips annually,
- teaches respect for elders and giving back to the community,
- equips students with foreign language skills, (Spanish is taught to all students, culminating with an 8th grade cultural exchange for 3 weeks in Peru, and hosting the Peruvian students for 3 weeks in Maryland, as well.)

I love the students my son has become friendly with at Barnesville, they are intellectually curious, empathetic, outdoorsy, and fun; I consider the other Barnesville families to be my good friends, too.

Barnesville School l is the best kept secret in Maryland! When I tell my friends how much more my son is learning at this independent school, than he did in public school, they are amazed. When they hear of the one-to-one attention he gets, and how happy he is to wake up and go to school, they wish they could say the same of their children.
