I’ve been a regular customer at Pinch a Penny for years, visiting on a weekly basis to have my pool water tested. The store displays a sign offering “free water testing,” which initially led me to believe that this was a service provided without any obligation. However, during a recent visit, an employee informed me that the store actually expects customers to purchase products in exchange for the free testing.

As a regular buyer of Muriatic Acid and other products, I was surprised by this approach. If the free testing is conditional upon purchases, it seems only fair that this should be clearly stated on the sign. A mention of a minimum purchase requirement or a time frame would prevent misunderstandings and help manage customer expectations. It would also be more professional than confronting customers with an unspoken policy.

Pinch a Penny offers valuable services, but transparency is crucial for building trust. If they clarified their policy, I think both the store and its customers would benefit from a more positive and straightforward experience.

Refused a refund for a smudge on a pole that I literally wiped off with my fingers, by this super rude older woman. She tried to say it was damaged and it was brand new from a few days ago. I guess there are no refunds on products at this store. cost you future business from a new pool owner. Rather shop Amazon anyway. Not good business.

During course of attempting to get leak at pool heater repaired, I contacted the North Port store on August 23rd. I am in Canada, the home is in North Port. They were to have service person attend the house. I called back on August 26th. Initially they could find no reference to my call but did ultimately find it. Tech called me on Tuesday the 27th saying that he needed to order a nipple and should have it installed and pool running by Thursday at the latest. Called again today, September 3rd, for an update. My pool is turning green. Part had been ordered but they still didn't have it. I asked if it was coming from Greenland, at which point she told me to go elsewhere and hung up.

Rude owner and manager. I see I’m not the only one to experience these issues. Why they feel it appropriate to gossip about a customer not only in front of that customer but other customers as well blows my mind. I used to shop at sparkle bright but unfortunately the owner sold to Leslie’s who I dislike as they provide little to no training for the employees. They don’t even ask if your pool circulation has changed or having a problem when your experiencing new water issues. I don’t believe over half my pop ups are working correctly since the hurricane and cannot get in the pool to find out.

Ryan came over and inspected the Chlorinator on our pool. Ryan was very professional and explained everything thoroughly. He did not have to clean it and put everything back together with no leaks and made sure to wait around to make sure it did not leak and had good flow.
When I called to pay for the service call, which Maureen quoted me approximately $90 to clean the chlorinator, which I thought was fair, and I liked they did not make me pay immediately and told me to call after the work was completed which was also very trustworthy on their part which I also appreciated a lot (and just to add Maureen is great and so fun and informative to work with). The very nice woman on the phone said she checked with Kevin and there would be no charge. I am located pretty close to this store and they did not have to clean the chlorinator, so there was no charge. I thought this was great customer service, as I do buy all my pool supplies from this location. Typically any other business would charge you for the service call, and they did not.
I will be using Kevin, Maureen, Ryan and the rest of the Pinch-A-Penny North Port team for all my future service work and pool cleaning, as well as all my pool supplies as usual.
I can’t say enough good things about these business owners. Seem like great people and we need more stores like this in today’s mess of a business world.

Was in to return $15 item bought from another pinch a penny store, & was told they dont allow returns from other stores. I find that hard to believe but ok. The North Port store just lost my business. I will go to the PC store for now on. Kinda funny too since I had multiple other items to buy today too🤣

Outstanding service, products, and prices from a Veteran/Family owned business. I had a problem with my pool being cloudy although the chlorine was strong and PH was good. Maureen set me up with what I needed and it cleared up beautifully. Always enjoy a visit to my favorite pool store.
